I try very hard to collect memories instead of trinkets these days, but there is a small handful of touchstones that help me keep in view what is most important.
Some years ago this antique locket on a watch fob utterly captivated me.
The small glass globe parts in the middle, with a picture displayed on either side, bearing young lovers in Austria in the40s, during World War II. It breaks my heart every time I look at it, and grounds me in the importance of human connection at the same time.
On my desk there is a picture standing behind it with an elderly couple, and it has a story all it’s own.
